How Does a Dripper System Work?

A Dripper System is ideal for people seeking an easy to use growing system. Origin systems feature a reservoir and use the drip-feed method to utilise the space available sensibly. This process ensures that your plants have a constant supply of nutrient solution, and it should give you far better yields than if you hand-watered the plants.

The advantage of this active growing system is its versatility, as it may be used with all kinds of growing medium, although the best results are often with clay pebbles.

These Origin systems are truly terrific value for money and easy to use, producing excellent results. You can choose from various configurations with multiple pot sizes, and pot numbers and mix and match to whatever combination you think is best for your current needs.

With Origin systems, the nutrient solution is in a reservoir at the system’s base, so the pots, and the plant roots, are suspended over it. A water pump transports the solution from the reservoir through the system’s drip lines and drippers in each of the pots; the pots sit in a large tray directly above the reservoir. After a complete cycle, gravity takes the nutrient solution back to the reservoir to use again.

How to Use?

You can assemble an Origin System in just a few minutes. Firstly you should place the reservoir in a suitable location in your grow room or tent, on a flat and stable surface. Then put the trays on top of it, and on top of these place the pots. Then install the pump and the distribution piping.

Now fill your pots with the substrate of your choice. Run the drip lines from the piping to each pot and connect the dripper suitable for your chosen substrate or growing medium. Use flood drippers for clay pebbles and arrow drippers for those materials which tend to have more water retention properties, such as coco coir, soil and Rockwool.

Next, fill your reservoir with water and mix in the nutrients; then add any boosters and additives following the feeding schedule that you’re using.

Transfer your plants straight into the pots and put the drippers in the substrate in each pot, placing them quite near each plant.

The majority of growers will opt to use a 24-hour timer to control the cyclical switching of the water pump on and off to control the feed schedule. Set your time switch to the right time, plug it into a mains socket and switch it on.

Plug your water pump directly into the timer. The pump can now water your plants according to whatever schedule you have set on your timer.

Your schedule will determine the exact timings. But for plants grown in clay pebbles (which is a recommended medium for this type of system), you should start giving your plants two or three feeds every day for about 15 minutes and spread out throughout the period when the grow lights are on. Then gradually increase the number of feeds every day the larger your plants grow, as they’ll need more nutrients and water as they get bigger.

If you’re using soil as the growing medium, you should perhaps invest in a 7-day timer that will allow fewer feeds on a less regularly.
