How does this electronic ballast work?

This electronic ballast is a practical, adaptable product and an asset to any hydroponic lighting system. It’s lightweight and produces very little heat. It has variable settings, which makes it ideal for almost all circumstances. The product provides four lighting options within one ballast, including 250w, 400w, 600w, and a 10% boost mode that effectively enables 660w. 

This ballast runs quite cool while at the same time producing consistent and efficient lighting, much more so than the traditional magnetic type of ballast. It converts the mains electricity into the correct voltage to power HPS or metal halide lamps. How do I use this electronic ballast?

This product is quite cool when running, but you’ll still need to locate it in a well-ventilated location. Always place your ballast on a firm, flat surface level, and do not put them on carpets. 

You should begin setting up by connecting your reflector’s input lead to the ballast output lead, ensuring that the cable doesn’t come anywhere near anything hot. Then make sure that the lamp is screwed tightly into the bulb holder and that the reflector is at the correct height for what it needs to do.

It’s important to remember that you should only be using the power output appropriate for the lamps’ output wattage. So, for example, if you’re using a 250-watt lamp, you should only be using this ballast at 250 watts. 

Using the 10% boost facility with this ballast is possible, but only when you’re on the 600w setting. When choosing the output wattage, you should connect the ballast to the mains electricity plug and switch it on. Your lamp will then light up slowly.

Note: You should never boost a lower-wattage lamp to a higher lamp-wattage setting.
